Moon Cycle Meltdowns (a.k.a. The Period Saddies): Why We’re Crying, Eating & Questioning Life Again

Ah, the Period Saddies—when your uterus stages a full-blown rebellion, your emotions run wild, and you suddenly cry over a paper towel commercial. Let’s laugh through the tears and honour this monthly rollercoaster.

This book is NOT about periods, but the title sure is fitting!

Let’s be real: the Period Saddies are like clockwork.

Every month, just when you’re living your best life, your uterus says, “Surprise! It’s chaos o’clock.” Suddenly, you’re a walking contradiction of emotions, cravings, and irrational life decisions—and honestly, it deserves its own Netflix special.

Here are the top ways the Period Saddies show up—and why we can all laugh through the pain:

1. Crying Over Literally Nothing (and Everything)

One second you’re fine, the next you’re sobbing because your sock fell off weird. Commercials, TikToks, and even the thought of your cat’s little paw beans = waterworks. Honestly? Oscar-worthy performances every single time. I literally cried yesterday because I was watching Stitch, the live-action movie (for the second time), and you know where Nani goes into the water to save Stitch and basically, football carries him out? Ya, I cried. For the SECOND time. The first being in theatres.

My partner and I love getting cozy and building blanket forts! We make popcorn, sip on some Bubly, and dive into a movie. Lately it’s been all about 90’s nostalgia, but yesterday we watched the new Stitch—and yes, we both cried (in case you missed the memo up top).

2. Snackpocalypse Mode Activated

Forget balanced meals. During the Period Saddies, you either want an entire Costco-sized bag of chips OR 14 donuts OR both at once. And if anyone dares to suggest a salad? Prepare for war.

I don’t know about you but it’s girl dinner for me.

Please include Pickles.

3. “Do I Even Like THEM?” Energy

Romantic partners beware: the Period Saddies are when you suddenly decide your entire relationship is on thin ice because they chewed too loud once. The jury in your uterus is harsh, and unfortunately, court is in session.

4. Burrito Blanket Syndrome

Forget productivity. The only thing that matters is your couch, a fuzzy blanket, and Netflix asking, “Are you still watching?” (Yes, Netflix. Don’t shame me. I can’t even stand up straight right now.)

Keep ‘em comin’!

5. Existential Dread for No Reason

You’ll find yourself staring at the ceiling, thinking: What am I even doing with my life? …and then 24 hours later, you’re completely fine again. (The whiplash is real.)

6. The Hot Water Bottle (or little microwave smelly pouch that also smells like lavender) is your Soulmate

That rubbery, awkward-shaped bestie who knows just where to sit on your belly? Yeah, that’s the real MVP of the Period Saddies.

Sometimes you want everything during your period, and that’s okay!

Final Thoughts:

The Period Saddies are like an uninvited guest that shows up monthly, eats all your snacks, cries on your couch, and leaves without saying thank you. But here’s the thing: you survive it every single time.

So next time you’re in the trenches, just remember: you’re not alone. We’re all out here crying over dog commercials, rage-snacking on pickles, and rethinking our entire existence once a month.

Tag your bestie who also cries at Pixar movies and pass the snacks.
